Everybody seems to hate this movie but I enjoyed the hell out of it. I saw it in the theater way back when. I guess I wasnt expecting a lot and it just delivered a fun evening. (The next AVP movie was legitimately awful as I recall.)
The boat they take to Antarctica is called the "Piper Maru" which is an X files reference, btw.
Nice bit of trivia there! Yeah, I mean it is entertaining, and my expectations were fairly low going in as well.
I think that a better idea would have been to have them discover a frozen predator spaceship, full of dead predators and some frozen xenomorph eggs. Then still have the predators show up to reclaim their ship. Gets rid of all that ancient civilisation worship nonsense, and would still deliver a fun movie.
Technically it was AVP 3, but it had been so long it was just called AVP when it released in 2010. I was the lead campaign designer for the marine's storyline, and one of the writers.
Yep, that's the one - the spreadsheets plotting all the timelines and crossover points were a lot of fun to make. Glad you enjoyed them, it's lovely to hear someone remembers that work!
Man that was literally one of my favorites ever. It pops up in my mind every now and then, and it’s just so dope to see someone that actually worked on it. I literally played nothing but that game for a long time.
Hmm, I’m not familiar with this movie at all. I’m pretty sure the Alien franchise stopped after Aliens in 1986 and there were never any sequels to Predator 🤔😁
Wasn’t there “Predator 2”, set in the middle of gang wars in L.A vs the police??? Danny Glover & Bill Paxton were in it. As for the Aliens franchise, I’m sure there was a part 3 (set in a prison on a distant planet) & Alien: Resurrection, which featured Winona Ryder. But, NO ONE could outshine Sigourney Weaver as Ripley 💪😌
There are so many movie franchises whose releases are getting worse & worse with each edition… Like The Fast & the Furious, The Terminator & the First Blood / Rambo movies. The first movie in each of those franchises were absolutely brilliant but after Terminator 2… Each just sucked worse than the one before 🤮🤮🤮. I don’t know how or why movie studios can’t come up with ORIGINAL ideas anymore 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, sorry Gerard. That was my rubbish Scottish sarcasm not working very well. I’ve watched all the Alien movies (even went to the cinema to see Alien3 🤦🏻♂️) and everything after Aliens is just terrible. Even the later Ridley Scott ones! Same goes for Predator. Again went to cinema to see Predator 2 and it’s all just gone downhill from there.
You’re right on franchise movies. Studios really need to move on and make original movies rather than just churning out the same rubbish 👍🏼
I love your inner thoughts section. I have one of those as well though, much to my husband’s dismay, I have a bad habit of letting him hear them out loud. I’ll admit, watching films with me can be tough sometimes (especially with the crap they’re churning out these days).
Oh boy, I don’t know. There’s not much new worth writing about honestly. Watched Moana 2 with the kids and um, it did not go well. I’ll let you know if I come up with something though.
I don’t really watch much horror in general but my husband loves them so I have been subjected to a few I can’t unsee. The last one he watched was a film from 2021 called “Stowaway”
The parts that I saw were laughably bad but I’ll admit I didn’t watch the entire film.
Loved this movie as a kid. My grandfather showed me all the eighties action and thrillers. Even if this one isn’t, I feel it stems from those. Definitely refined my taste but to say it’s a GOOD movie is definitely a reach. Definitely entertaining for me still.
My favourite bit was always the bit where the handsome archaeologist says "In my country they call this pollo a cacciatore... Hunter's Chicken." I think that's how it went, anyway. The movie is a hot mess as you say, but I tell you what, the animatronics for the xenomorphs is sensational.
Haha yeah he says something cacciatore, can't remember what! And yeah the CGI was a bit shitty looking, whereas the animatronics, particularly the xenomorph mouth, looked great.

"They should make a video game of this."
*wavea* I worked on one of them!
No way! Which one?
Technically it was AVP 3, but it had been so long it was just called AVP when it released in 2010. I was the lead campaign designer for the marine's storyline, and one of the writers.
Awesome! I'm actually a software tester by day, never worked on a videogame though ❤️
It's a complex industry, with many strengths and weaknesses...
Holy crap you worked on that AVP game that had three story lines? I fn loved that game as a kid!
Yep, that's the one - the spreadsheets plotting all the timelines and crossover points were a lot of fun to make. Glad you enjoyed them, it's lovely to hear someone remembers that work!

Haha exactly! But honestly, you’re not missing much mate 🤣

Yeah, there was. I think Daniel just likes to pretend they don't exist lol.

You seen Romulus? Or Prey?
I remember seeing another movie that was a reported spin-off from Alien called “Prometheus”, which is average at best 🥱🥱🥱
I’ve seen Romulus and wasn’t a fan even though a lot of folks seemed to like it. Might have to go back and give it another watch
I’d forgotten about Prey. That’s a great movie 👍🏼
This was so fun watching as a kid but it’s such a bad movie 🤣🤣
Yeah, it sucks! The whole storyline made no sense 😆
I don’t even rmr there was a story hahaha
“‘Plot’ is a rather strong word, but here goes.”
I laughed so hard at this 🤣

Haha thanks! My wife does that as well, but I do too, so I can't complain 😂
Taking requests if you have any ❤️

Please do! It's supposed to be horror films only (hence "scaredy-cat" reviews), and it works best if they fall into any of the following categories:
- Nostalgic/cult classic
- Hasn't aged well
- Kinda sucks 😂

Loved Sanaa Lathan in this!
Yeah she was good, but couldn’t save this movie 😂
You’re right about this being forgettable because I have no idea if I’ve even seen this!
I'm already starting to forget it 😂

Oh yeah, terrible film but still entertaining!
PS — your grandfather sounds cool af.

Thanks Lyndsey! And Predators is a good movie. Also, I think I might be the only person who enjoyed The Predator from a few years ago 😂
Prey was awesome as well!
